AIREZ did not begin as a platform. It began with a mission to help people better understand the physical world.
November 2019
The beginning.
Technology entrepreneur Herman DeBoard founded AIREZ with a very different vision than the company has today. The original goal was to create a secure mobile reconnaissance application that would allow users operating in unfamiliar environments to collect, organize, and understand visual intelligence.
At the time, no one realized that this mobile reconnaissance application would become the very first sensor within what would eventually become the AIREZ Physical Intelligence Platform.
Better decisions begin with better awareness.
Approximately two years later
The second sensor.
While the platform was still under active development, Herman acquired rights to a multi-patented Fiber Optic Ring Interferometer (FoRi) technology. Unlike traditional security systems, the fiber optic sensor transformed ordinary fiber strands into an intelligent listening and location system capable of detecting vibrations and activity across long distances.

The original objective was to combine both technologies into a next-generation mobile security platform designed for special operations and high-security environments.
As a decorated United States Air Force Gulf War veteran, Herman's experience shaped the company's early focus on situational awareness, operational intelligence, and decision support.
The turning point
The platform became something no one expected.
While engineering the software capable of interpreting data from both sensing systems simultaneously, the engineering team made an unexpected discovery.
The artificial intelligence engine could successfully interpret completely different sensor types in real time. At that moment, the team realized they had not built software for two sensors.
They had built a sensor-agnostic intelligence platform.
That realization fundamentally changed the future of the company.
From sensors to Physical Intelligence
One breakthrough became the company's vision.
Today AIREZ is building the Physical Intelligence Layer — a platform capable of integrating nearly any sensing technology into one continuously expanding intelligence system. Instead of replacing infrastructure, AIREZ works with the systems organizations already own, and every new integration expands the platform's understanding of the physical environment.
